Festive vibes

Ganesh Chaturthi wishes to all.๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒธ

Every year I try to create a special Ganesha corner in my home during this time.

This year I gave form to Him using rice grains.

This is my way to thank Him for all the million blessings in my life.

The process is simple. You can take any wooden base, ( here I re used an old roti maker) line rice grains in the form of Ganesha, use his favorite flower like the hibiscus to enhance his trunk and line up the space with lamps and more flowers.

In this way, nothing is wasted. After the festival is over you can use the same rice for cooking too.

Are you enjoying the image? Tell me in the comments. Shall wait to hear from all of you.

Another simple manner, to create his presence is thru rangoli or kolam. We usually draw rice Paste rangoli. This is my representation of Him ๐Ÿ™

Some more Ganesha corners in my next post. Stay tuned. Happy festivities everyone ๐Ÿ˜Š

Pichwai inspired wall canvases

Pichwai is a style of art that originated in Nathdwara, Rajasthan more than 400 years ago. Vibrant designs based on Lord Krishna's life is depicted on cloth. The word Pichwai comes from 'Pichh' meaning back and 'wai', which  means textile hanging.

This pair of canvas depicting Shreenath ji and his cow have been sent to me by "TheArtment"

Not only do these lend a very ethnic appeal to your space but also gives a calming vibe to your entire home.

A Krishna inspired corner adorning the wall canvases.

Love for terracotta

Rustic always had its charm over me and things made out of mud even more! Am talking of terracotta here. The potter's wheel can keep me engaged for hours by just looking at the pieces in making!

I Never miss a chance of buying such beautiful pieces wherever and whenever I eye them. Over the years, I have collected some good pieces from local exhibitions, enroute a road trip to Pondicherry and also detoured while in Goa to a place called Bicholim in North Goa, for these.  Such is the craze and am thankful my hubby supports me in all this madness๐Ÿ™ƒ

Sharing the pieces I own  and how I style them in my home from time to time. Hope you enjoy the ride thru these visuals.

Will be back soon with some more amazing posts, till then take care, stay safe!

DIY : Packaging material converted to a tray

I always try to judge the recycling/ upcycling potential of stuff that we sometimes receive as packaging material for the items that we buy. Such was this light weight wooden box that held  my son's toy blocks.

For many years, I just held on to it, in the hope of upcycling it and one fine day during this pandemic, it finally happened.

Pichwai painting has always captivated me. Cow and some lotus motifs is what I had in my mind. Traced out the design, painted it and applied a coat of varnish. That's it! Am using it as a tray but this can also be hanged on the wall and used as a pretty shelf.

Let me know, do you like it? How have you been spending your time these days. Creative pursuits amidst all the chaos is good for the brain, I tell you!

Keep inspiring and be inspired! Life is all about these little pleasure.  Have a great day๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜Š

Heirloom pieces

Hello all,

I know I have been MIA for a while now, but as they say, better late than never! Well, because of the pandemic, there is the  good and the bad! Bad part we are all well aware of! That constant worry of our near and dear ones is always on the mind, no matter how we try to control it. But it is also equally necessary to be away from negative emotions and do something worthwhile.

There was always this urge to try something new. The 'stay at home' option because of the dreaded pandemic gave me the perfect opportunity.

We have some very old brass and bronze pieces and i decided to style one of these precious ware in 3 different ways. Now, isn't that a brilliant way to put our treasures to best use?

So, we have this kodam or the brass pot that was ideally used to store  water and my mother in law got it as a gruhapravesha gift from her mother in law.  That's wonderful right?

These are the 3 ways in which I adorned my home with this kodam. You tell me, which one is your favorite.

1. Kodam as a lamp.

Here i show you, how easily you can convert it into a lamp. A round wooden base with electrical fitting is all you need to do so. Every time it lights up , a part of me glows from within !

2. Kodam as a decor element

Here am using the brass pot/ kodam as a decor element.  It is such an elegant piece that it requires no add on!!

3. Kodam as a side table.

The brass pot/ kodam is used here as a side table. I have covered the surface with another brass thaal, you can choose to cover it with a glass top too! Either ways it looks pretty!!!

These arrangements have also been captured on Instagram reels. I would love, if you can visit my Instagram page here and go to the reel section to view the same.

Hope you loved this post. I promise to be more regular here. But I would also love if you can follow me on Instagram for daily updates from me.

Till then Ciao!!!

Bring happiness home, add flowers

Our homes are our safe zones, our place of comfort and a space that gives us happiness. Flowers are one such source of forever bliss but it is not always possible to have fresh flowers at home, just might not be economical but yes here in this post, let me give you ideas on how we can have flowers at home always and derive happiness from them.

How about planting?

So, why not begin with planting flowers at your home. Begin with easy to maintain flowering plants, if you are new to gardening. Your nursery fellow can be a guide to the kind of flowering tree you can have, depending on the climatic conditions suitable to your area.
when you have flowers growing in your home, you can always chose to let them be in your balcony/garden or within the corners of your home. I have a bougainvillea plant at home. Many a times, i keep a bunch of these in a vase in various corners of my home. It is a win win situation since it is strongly advised to prune the plant after it flowers for its good growth.

Dry flower arrangement

Now, this is again a very easy solution to be surrounded by flowers, fresh or dried! As i was mentioning, the bougainvillea flowers get a papery texture once it dries. Either keep them in a vase along with the dried stem or place them in bowl/platter/uruli on your centre table or your bed side table.

Framed and preserved

The other day i got a bunch of roses from my usual flower guy. After it adorned my home, i let it dry well, pressed them inside a book and then guess what? I framed them forever in these transparent glass frames. Do you like this idea?

Paper flowers

Paper flowers are an interesting option too! These marigolds and peonies are made of paper but aren't they pretty? Go on and flaunt them too!

Floating flowers

These are next best to having a bunch of fresh florals at home. These are ones which do not have long stems and are sold in the market for offering them to the deity but you can always use them to decorate your spaces by floating them in an attractive uruli or bowls. These are easy on your pockets too and you can afford to have an endless supply of these beauties.

Hope these tips will help you to all to always have flowers in your home and keep you cheerful and happy!

Maadhumita's home in Singapore

I know, i shall fall short of words while describing this home, which belongs to Maadhumita, but i comfort myself, that indeed, the beautiful images  need no explanation!

Maadhumita's home boasts of a global appeal with its aesthetics deeply rooted in our Indian culture. Everything seamlessly falls into place. This is something I loved about her home. There is a perfect balance of comfort and style that makes the decor seem simple yet sophisticated! Every corner is well thought of in detail but it still doesn't seem to be decorated just for the sake of it!

Over to Maadhumita now...

"We have been living in Singapore for more than three decades now. This house has been our home for the last six years. It has three bedrooms overlooking a swimming pool and has a large living and dining area. The two balconies are small and but they nurture my plants.
You will notice I prefer white or pastel shades for my walls or furniture. The colours in the rooms come from the paintings, cushions, flowers, plants, and the carpets."

Adding depth into decor thru the textiles, wall frames n accessories

Love that dose of bright pink...
Little, pretty stuff that makes the dining area
"I grew up watching my mother maintaining and embellishing a beautifully decorated home. There were always fresh flowers and a variety of plants that left a huge impression on me. I love antique furniture and artifacts. I still scout around for ancient items."

In love with those black n white frames

The hexagonal table with a marble top is an antique piece picked  up from a narrow congested bylane selling old items in Kolkata.

Even simple things such as these door stoppers which have been stuck on the side of a bookcase add to the vibrancy of the home.

That Maadhumita loves antique pieces and she carries a charm of effortlessly working around them is evident from this image which houses her Chinese rice container and a lamp which are very old and are her prized possessions. The brass planter paan dan belonged to her grandmother and she says, it must have come down to her from the 19th century.

She has used the rice container as a side table  and the ancient lamp and paan-daan atop that. It makes for a wonderful sight! Isnt it?

Simple Indian folk-art, nothing expensive used in her decoration
She goes onto mention, ' I even have a few Picasso prints picked up from one of my trips which hang in the guest bathroom. I used simple IKEA frames for them. We, meaning my husband, my daughter and I usually buy works of unknown artists.
My husband and my daughter are the artists in the family. They speak through their films, art and writings. I have some of my daughter’s works on the walls. I am the one who just sits back and enjoys their work.'

Moving on to her bedrooms...

Bedrooms are also in muted and pastel shades. The master bedroom is mostly in black and white but the colour is from a Kandinsky print that they picked up in Amsterdam.

Her daughter's room...

Guest bedroom... And these botanicals have been done by Maadhumita herself.

The kitchen, where she feels she doesn't have any set rules. I adored those quotes which add a quirk to the whole set up. It lends visual appeal to the space. Every corner is made interesting, just with the addition of kitchen essentials.

One day, Maadhumita plans to return to India and is currently trying to finish doing up her home in Kolkatta. And when that happens, it will be equally interesting to feature her home once again!

Thanks Maadhumita for being willing to be a part of my journey. Hope all of you enjoyed the house tour as much as I loved presenting it to you all.
