Lamp decor

Hi there, so tomorrow is Ganesh Chaturthi and here I am with a post on decorating your lamps before placing them in your Ganesha decorations.

Do not place your lamps directly on the floor or any other surface.  Instead follow these simple and easy ways to highlight the lamps.

1st way...

Draw a kolam or a rangoli. You can always use stencils which are easily available in the markets too. Enhance the outline with flowers and then place the lamp at the centre.

2nd way...

Take a banana leaf and cut a round piece, larger in diameter than your lamp. Place this underneath the lamp and encircle it with marigolds . Greens and orange make for a interesting combination.

3rd way...

Surround your lamp With petals of different colours just like a onam pookalam. You can make this floral rangoli according to the size of the lamp. This enhances the look of the lamp.

Try these ideas and let me know. Though am doing this for Ganesha chaturthi, you can always try these ways for the festival of lights, Deepavali 🪔🪔🪔

Festive vibes

Ganesh Chaturthi wishes to all.🌸🌼🌸

Every year I try to create a special Ganesha corner in my home during this time.

This year I gave form to Him using rice grains.

This is my way to thank Him for all the million blessings in my life. 

The process is simple. You can take any wooden base, ( here I re used an old roti maker) line rice grains in the form of Ganesha, use his favorite flower like the hibiscus to enhance his trunk and line up the space with lamps and more flowers.

In this way, nothing is wasted. After the festival is over you can use the same rice for cooking too.

Another simple manner, to create his presence is thru rangoli or kolam. We usually draw rice Paste rangoli. This is my representation of Him 🙏

Diwali themed decor

Hi lovely people, gearing up for the most awaited festival of the year? Confused on how to give a festival vibe to your home! 

Well,  I have created a simple Diwali theme for you all, mostly using elements I already had! 

Hope this will at least give you some ideas for your own home. You can always add new elements to what I have suggested and create a happy space this Deepavali.

Firstly, gather all stuff related to the festival that are considered auspicious like Idol of Lakshmiji , Ganesha, earthen diyas, lamps, candles, rangoli stickers, kundan rangoli, kalasha , bright runners etc.

You can design this theme on a shelf, console or a table. 

 Here, I have used a duppatta as a runner. It is a bright pink, yellow and golden one  with beautiful embroidered motif of a flowerpot.The other personalised addition are the earthen diyas that I hand painted. This way I choose my own colour scheme for them.

Apart from these, Diwali is incomplete without sweets but instead of traditional sweets I have kept cupcake moulds filled with chocolates. This arrangement is specially for the kids. The cupcake moulds also lend a colourful and cheerful twist to the theme.

At night with just the lights on...

Ideally, you can create this decor in your entryway welcoming guests and Goddess Lakshmi blessing them with health, happiness and  prosperity .

Diwali celebration with candles and roses.

So, we are at the third post of the series.Have you read the other two?If Not,you can do so here and here.

Long back,there used to be a serial on T.V 'Best out of waste'.Did you watch them as kids.I can still remember the anchor though I have forgotten her name.Anyway, I thought little about the program when I was young but now seriously I have become hoarder of sorts.

Had collected Pista shells in enormous quantity not knowing what is to be done with them exactly but since they did not occupy much space,they were stored away happily in a corner.This Diwali I have put them to good use.That's what I would like to think!!!

You would need only pista shells (about 50 of them) and a T light candle for this amazing lotus shaped DIY.

This one I kept in natural colour but you can always colour them and add embellishment too! For more details and step wise instruction view it here.


And another tip, to make it a floating candle.stick a circular piece of foam at the base.This way it will float in water .


So, if you don't have pista shells,this Diwali, as you munch on pistas do remember to store it and you can create a warm glow during Christmas or New year.

'Bommai golu' & Navraatri celebration!

In south India, many house holds have a display of dolls collected over the years.This is also the time when Goddess Durga (One who denotes power or shakti) , Maa Lakshmi( the giver of wealth) and Goddess Saraswati ( Goddess of Knowledge & learning) are worshiped. Cheers to women power! Isn't it?
 We have different ways of celebrating the same festival all over India.This is the time to realize the presence of women in our lives and respect them, if not worship.

A reason to celebrate...My home turns ONE!

It's been a year since we shifted into our present home. Recently, I celebrated the birthday of my home! Yes, you heard me right. Really wanted it to be a memorable moment. And it can't get any better without gifts.

Having your own sweet home is a dream shared by millions. After purchasing your home,you want to leave no stone un turned in decorating your abode.Now, having spent an year in it, I wanted to add  pieces that would be conversation starters.


I was a little short of time to scout around various shops and buy something that will not only be functional but also enhance the decor value of my home.

Flipkart came to my instant rescue. I have always loved the products at Flipkart and the home segment of Flipkart has always been my personal Favourite. They have  offers on the go, on most of their products. 

It's so easy with Flipkart, to choose products based on category and brands.The pricing always has been very reasonable. In fact, I feel affordable pricing, to suit all pockets is their USP.

I was  clear that the products chosen, should be liked by all my family members.  As a family, we spend more time in our terrace and Bedroom. Also, when  many guests arrive, the kitchen is where the excitement is. So the items had to be from these segments. That's how I zeroed down upon the following  items from the home section of Flipkart.

All the ordered items arrived at the scheduled time in good condition. My happiness knew no bounds,receiving them.

Comforters can be an ideal companion especially in Bangalore weather to snuggle inside with your family members and may be watch a movie together. How about an interesting book read, all curled up inside a comforter.Quite an appealing idea isn't it? Well that's how we spent the better part of the day.

My garden is the happiest. And... am all smiles...

We usually have our morning cuppa amongst greenery. The next set of products, I adored  was a set of  yellow planters and a cute hen shaped watering can.I fell in love with the can, as soon as I set my eyes on it.Such a unique piece.I kept on arranging and re-arranging the planters with various plants, until I felt this was the way for it to be.

Garden accessories perk up the space and something like these colorful ones are sure to lift up your spirits, every time, you eye them. Such a nice corner it has turned out to be. Do you agree?

On the D-day, that is, when our home turned one, I had invited some friends for a small tea party.I proudly displayed the last item I had ordered from Flipkart. A whistling kettle.

so many colours are available in this category. I preferred the one in orange.Ideal for making tea with a capacity of about 2.25 litres. I could see my friends turning green with envy. That was a show stealer!

My day was made. All thanks to Flipkart for making my home special. Even today the celebration continues...
