One vase, two looks...

Hi everyone, I know its been long that I appeared on this page but today I have something interesting for all of you. Recently, I got a hammered vase from this shop based in Bangalore, Tesor,  which is originally derived from the word tesoro, means treasure in Italian.

Now, coming back to the vase, it has been given a hammered effect and you will find little flowers etched on it. I felt it looks good on the floor as well on a side table.

I created two looks with it, which is what I want to share with you all. One on the floor with faux flowers in it and another on a sidetable with real tube roses and carnations in it. You have a look and tell me which arrangement you like better!

Bring happiness home, add flowers

Our homes are our safe zones, our place of comfort and a space that gives us happiness. Flowers are one such source of forever bliss but it is not always possible to have fresh flowers at home, just might not be economical but yes here in this post, let me give you ideas on how we can have flowers at home always and derive happiness from them.

How about planting?

So, why not begin with planting flowers at your home. Begin with easy to maintain flowering plants, if you are new to gardening. Your nursery fellow can be a guide to the kind of flowering tree you can have, depending on the climatic conditions suitable to your area.
when you have flowers growing in your home, you can always chose to let them be in your balcony/garden or within the corners of your home. I have a bougainvillea plant at home. Many a times, i keep a bunch of these in a vase in various corners of my home. It is a win win situation since it is strongly advised to prune the plant after it flowers for its good growth.

Dry flower arrangement

Now, this is again a very easy solution to be surrounded by flowers, fresh or dried! As i was mentioning, the bougainvillea flowers get a papery texture once it dries. Either keep them in a vase along with the dried stem or place them in bowl/platter/uruli on your centre table or your bed side table.

Framed and preserved

The other day i got a bunch of roses from my usual flower guy. After it adorned my home, i let it dry well, pressed them inside a book and then guess what? I framed them forever in these transparent glass frames. Do you like this idea?

Paper flowers

Paper flowers are an interesting option too! These marigolds and peonies are made of paper but aren't they pretty? Go on and flaunt them too!

Floating flowers

These are next best to having a bunch of fresh florals at home. These are ones which do not have long stems and are sold in the market for offering them to the deity but you can always use them to decorate your spaces by floating them in an attractive uruli or bowls. These are easy on your pockets too and you can afford to have an endless supply of these beauties.

Hope these tips will help you to all to always have flowers in your home and keep you cheerful and happy!

In the times of Covid 19

Now that Corona is a bitter truth of life and we understand, it is here to stay for a while, how can we better equip ourselves? Let's give that a thought.

Masks:

Masks are compulsory but do not be overwhelmed. You need not buy expensive ones. If you know basic stitching, stitch one for yourself. Left over pieces of fabrics, blouse pieces anything can come to your rescue. Make it 3 layered. There are many you tube videos demonstrating it! Take help.
Give your cloth pieces to a tailor if stitching is not your game.
Get 3 to 4 pieces done for every individual at home. This way after every use, you can give them a good wash. Also, you can get them done in different colours to pair them accordingly with your outfits.
This Kerala kasuvu mask is made from the saree blouse piece by my mil.

Sanitizers:

For all the time you are home, the good old method of handwash with soap is the best.
But when you are outside, carry a sanitizer without fail.

Most important:

The most important aspect is to place these stuff at a place where it is visible, doesn't look odd and remind you to take them while you step out! The best place is near the entrance. That is where I have kept them. I have also marked  the masks with initials so that there is no confusion.

DIY Kit:
The mask basket is a DIY made of newspaper. Roll the masks and place them in the basket.
You want to make it too...watch the process here.

The sanitizer container is also a DIY made of jute ropes stuck on an ice cream container and made attractive using pom poms.
I have made it look appealing by adding a plant and a smiley board.
Now isn't that a good idea?

It is always a great idea to be better prepared than be sorry for anything! I am taking all the neccessary precautions. You do too and together we shall fight out this monster!

Take care & stay safe.😊

Floral display

In the wake of the lock down, we have limited means of access to various elements even flowers which as per news is going waste as people cannot venture out to buy them. If you are in the habit of having flowers at home regularly, it might be disappointing, not to have them in your home at all!

In such times it is very liberating, I would say, to create an arrangement with stuff, one has in hand. It can be anything, right from twigs, herbs, pods, branches, flowers from your balcony or a garden if you have one.
You can have fruits or veggies too in your arrangement.
The idea is to engage yourself in some lock down fun, create a floral arrangement from the comfort of your own home. I did something like that and it felt very satisfying.
Have a look and try attempting similar ones. We are forced to be inside but why not let our creativity flow?
Have a look...

Started out with these...dried eucalyptus stems, a bougainville stem, pinecones, was contemplating whether to have some greens along side...

I have a firm idea in place now, shall just finish the arrangement.

And finally the arrangement is done. A brass kooja from yesteryears,  serves as the vase.As I mentioned, dried branches, pinecones, pods, schffelera leaves, a bougainville stem, geranium flower all put together on a console for a pleasing display. Tell me, do you like it...
Don't restrict yourself because of the situation, instead try different ways to keep yourself engaged with stuff you like to do. We are in this together, and we shall emerge out of it together and stronger!

Anuradha Singh's living room tour

We have Anuradha with us today, showing off her warm and cosy living room. She is  from Noida and works with a NGO. Anuradha shares this beautiful home with her husband, son (who is currently  studying in London) and her adorable dog Busty.

A neutral palette, furniture that supports comfortable living with clean, simple lines and accessories that lend a very earthy feel is the USP of her living room.

Fine detailing often enhances any space. The cushions, runner, floor rugs, throws and the wall covering takes the decor to the next level.

Lighting plays a very important role to make a home look warm and cosy and Anuradha sure has got them covered in her space. Floor lamps, table lamp and the lights on the wall gives a lived in feel to the whole set up.

Anuradha says, 'I love Indian design, colors & patterns. My home reflects my passion for traditional Indian style. I love changing the arrangement of my house based on occasions and I believe my home is ever-evolving in terms of  decor.'

This book shelf is ultimate goal for book lovers and decor aficionados alike! The key to a great bookshelf is arranging the books according to its dimension, colour and genre. Always make sure to add interesting decor elements to go with the books. Small, quirky pieces, your travel souvenirs are great accompaniments to your book shelf. This zone can be further accentuated by including plants and floor lighting. The entire ambience then conspires you to pick up a book and atleast leaf thru it! That's the power of a good reading corner.

Corner space utilised effectively...

That's our friendly dog Busty.

Console styling at its best: A runner is the most essential piece while styling your console. Then you can place decor accents that are meaningful and close to your heart. Grouping together elements helps to think of it as a composition, created to draw your attention through the area. Seeing the same colors, design patterns and shapes on the console gives it a cohesive design. The rule of three is used in interior design to create interest, rhythm and depth.

I hope you love this tour of Anuradha's space. Keep styling and decorating your homes.
As we step into a brand new year I thank you all for your continued support and am being selfish here to expect more love from all you towards my blog sajavat.

You can stalk me here, guilt-free!

Wishing all you out there, a  new year that unfolds  many possibilities and fulfils all your dreams! Have a fantastic 2020!

Restroom makeover

Makeovers are real fun to execute. First, you have to come up with a solid foolproof idea, then comes the planning stage which includes buying the required materials and finally the execution of the project. Recently, i did a small addition/ change to our common restroom and all those who have seen the 'Before' and 'After' have liked these changes.

The restroom appeared dark with black/brown coloured tiles on the walls. These tiled walls looked classy when we moved in  but soon with usage and water stains that refused to go away even after multiple attempts prompted me to take up this makeover.

Some time back, i had transformed the window pane from 'boring' to 'interesting' which  I have shared here.
So, now lets start with this one...

Before...

I chose these vinyl wall adhesives -Moroccan styled mosaics which are waterproof and especially designed for bathrooms and kitchens. My main aim here was to give a cheerful look to the space which i think is achieved with these colourful ones.

This is the link if you choose to buy the same.

I chose to place these adhesives in a random manner. I only, had to visualize which one to place where but you know that's the trickiest of all!

This is how it progressed. Then i felt, the window sill too looked ugly. So another one cut to size, peeled and pasted. Now the look is complete. Am at peace with myself now. I feel it has added the necessary vibrancy needed in the restroom. what do you think folks?  Let me know in the comments.

The final look...

A home where re-purposing is a way of life!

As a blogger, i have always enjoyed covering homes that have a distinct character of its own.The home tour of this month is supposed to be just that! A sailor's home and how the wife lovingly takes care of the brick and mortar and turns it into a dream abode for the family, is what draws and pulls me to feature it on my blog.

Ankita... The name behind this lovely home is travel inspired and many of the corners at her home adorns the souvenirs, she has fondly collected during her travel with her sailor hubby.
She is the mother of a toddler, 2 furry babies and in numerous plants. Around 35 years old with just some renovation in the wiring and flooring, the rest of the house is untouched as Ankita and her hubby appreciate the love and sweat gone behind constructing the home by their parents and would like it to exude the old world charm.

Ankita says, she loves playing with colour schemes and you will notice the same corners being styled differently in each image. I love this passion in home owners who try and give a new look to their homes every now and then. To tell you all, her home caught the fancy of another popular home decor blogger who has already featured her home. To keep the freshness alive, Ankita went ahead as suggested and changed the soft furnishings and other decor elements to give a whole new look to her living space.
Here, Ankita shares a little secret with us. She has used nails on the walls such that she can easily switch frames and other artifacts whenever needed.

Let me take you all to her living area. The colour scheme for the moment is all pink and blue as opposed to the earlier one which had a tinge of rust in it.The furniture is cane which is durable, lightweight and relatively easier to maintain.

I shall also share the image of her earlier decor scheme, so that one can  observe the change and notice how a mere change of furnishings can entirely alter the look and feel of a given space.

Earlier...Decor scheme with earthy orange

Ankita feels she canot stick to any one particular decor style but loves changing her home decor according to festivals and seasons. At the same time, modern homes with false ceilings and fixtures is a big no to her.

Now for the image, that captivated me to get in touch with Ankita for a home feature.

The blues and whites remindes me of waves and fluffy clouds...a sailor's companion😊

Tell me folks, isn't that four poster bed just too inviting? This room radiates the perfect dose of class and calmness essential in a bedroom. Wont you agree with me here?

I think being a sailor's wife the colour blue holds a special meaning for Ankita, as you can see some corners and a wall decorated with blue.

The striking blue wall gives the perfect backdrop to all the cherished artifacts

Breath taking...

Greens enhancing the corner

As is evident from the pictures, Ankita loves plants. She has been adding more and more of them in her decor to bring liveliness and happiness around home. She adds that, spending time with the greens is her favourite activity and she loves doing this with her kiddo.

Moving on to the staircase gallery wall which is the most talked about wall in her home, establishes the strong influence of a sailor's life in the decor. "It has so many memories of different port cities, we have visited during sailing" says Ankita

Delightful to look at!

The staircase landing made special with thoughtful knick knacks

In Ankita's words, "Art is my passion which you can see in my decor as well. I love watching DIY videos and implementing them in my home. Re purposing old stuff and giving them a new lease of life is something am genuinely fond of!
I have used window frames to enhance vertical gardens, old bottles are used to propagate new plants and this headboard from my mother in laws cot, adds visual interest to this wall, when placed alongside the jharokas.Nothing goes waste! Reusing and re cycling is the mantra i follow always!"

Love the framed DIY

Fab idea!

Elegance at it's best!

The other bedrooms...

Creating vignette around home give us a scope to exhibit our skill as a "Decorista". Aren't you all with me on this?
Some more wonderful styling from Ankita's place.

With this, we come to the end of this home tour. Hope this taste fully done abode, inspires and gives you many ideas, to do your home!

Homes tours not only let us peep into the lives of like minded people but influences us to create cozy and well maintained spaces for our loved ones too!

Thanks a ton Ankita for inviting us to your favorite place- A place simply called "HOME"
