DIY on a terracotta planter

I have a huge bougainvillea pot which was very plain. Often I thought of painting a bloom or make a warli scene on it but somehow it never materialized.  Then came this Corona disaster accompanied with lockdown.  Though we are handling more work than usual now, it is also the time that we keep ourselves well occupied and sane.

What can be better than a DIY?

Also, had saved a few tile pieces and and some glass bits from some other DIY kit which came in very handy now for the transformation of the pot.

The images will show you how the whole process came about from start to finish. I had a garden themed idea to decorate the pot and as I proceeded,  made some changes and arrived at the final look. I have covered only the front portion of the pot since it is a bulky one and has already been planted, which makes it immovable. If you like the DIY and intend to try out , you can cover the entire surface.
I have used fevicol to stick the bits. For plastic pots, you can use stronger adhesives like quick fix.

The balcony with pots lined up and the mosaic-ed pot in the centre looks like this now. A Bulbul graced my space as I was clicking pics... that made me super happy!!!

Hope you liked this creative way to decorate your planter and take up the decor quotient a notch high ...
Stay safe, stay home and most importantly stay happy folks

Home tour: Shalini Jain of Creative kalakari

We have Shalini Jain today with us and we are going to take a tour of her home.  She is a digital marketer expert by profession in a reputed real estate company in Gurugram for the last 11 years.
Shalini and her family reside in Faridabad, in what she calls her ‘Dream Home’ You will soon notice that she is very creative and hosts a hashtag by the name  #creativekalakari on instagram. She attributes her creative skills to her mother who practiced sewing and embroidery. The painting and sketching classes that she took up as a hobby in her childhood and the creative genes passed on to her by her mom  has shaped her into the person that she is today!

Her house is a riot of colours. In her words…

“My home is my canvas and I am obsessed with colors so you shall notice that I have incorporated all colours in my home!   I love to take up DIY’s.  So much passion, warmth & love go into each piece I create, and that gives me extreme satisfaction! I love the fact that many of my artworks are part of my décor.”

I am fond of vibrant cushions & I think one can easily give new look in their space simply by inclusion of beautiful cushions covers & beautiful bedspreads. I really check cushions online & try to select the unique & vibrant cushions for my home.

This wired seater is from her mom in law’s collection. Shalini is only too happy that she didn’t give it off but has used it well in her guest room.

Shalini has used stenciling on her walls in the living room and is happy with her choice of colours. Bright pink walls with pretty motifs and another wall in a lighter shade has these paisley motif that is real eye catchy!

Time to catch a glimpse of all her DIY’s. I really loved the way she has transformed old bottles and given them a new look. ‘Trash to treasure’ is what I would like to call it ideally!

Another noticeable art are these wall art in her kitchen.

Some images from her bedroom…

Shalini says, “Go Green to Breathe Clean” Have a look at her indoor plants collection.

To sum it all up she says,
“My career is not from art field, but crafting, decorating, reading about art, designing & decorating gives me inner happiness. For me art is a real stress buster. So recently, I have launched my own website.”

Have a look …

It was wonderful collaborating with you Shalini. Thanks for being a part of sajavat. Simultaneously, Shalini also has covered my home in her blog. Do take out  time, to check that on her site as well!

Plants in your decor

There is no such thing as too much greenery. Ask me, the more the merrier! Most of us do whatever it comes to accommodate plants at home , for the rest I have only one advice...Bring these life givers into your lives, home decor takes a whole new turn with greens around!
No dedicated space - bring them indoors.
Small balcony - use available spaces like window sill, area near the kitchen sink,  rest room shelves( yes, don't spare them either)

Let me show you some inspirational visuals...

Rain drenched greens...

Create a partition with plants!

On the window...

As I said, have them in your 'rasoi'

Calmness assured!
That cluster out there on the wooden bajot has my heart

Hanging them in pretty pots is always an available option.

Sitting inside but staring outside the window? Well, the greens outside sure does that to you!

Can sit here and gaze for hours....how about you?

Even a small sit out comes to life...

A quiet corner...

A very simple arrangement but for the extra dose of colours!

So, when are you sprucing up your home with plants?

Renovating my green space

Greens have always been my weakness. Every time I visit a  friend or a relative, i unfailingly carry back seeds or plants.  Till a few week's back, all my plants were arranged on the floor and inspite of having a terrace balcony the space looked almost full.

Now, we have a customised metal rack made in two levels and that houses all the plants, thus freeing the floor space. Since, they are neatly arranged in a line, it also gives the plant a kind of volume.
You will notice that the little accessories amidst the plants appeal more than ever now

Also, it is easy to maintain the floor and they are devoid of mud or water stains.A little change goes a long way...

Have a look at the pics...

An L-shaped rack fulfills my requirement. It holds pots of various sizes and some much needed accessories in between.

Take a closer look...

A ketli converted into a planter and a shell holding cactus

Grasshopper adding some colour

Another ceramic jar converted into a planter...

Painted stones adding some more cheer!

This pot holds a dried stem picked during walks...

Another stone with painted prayers on it

Do you notice the bells in this pic Both are cowbells, one a replica from the famous Bollywood movie DDLJ, another one from a small village near Dandeli. I remember me and my cousin sighting a cow grazing in the field with such  a bell tied to its neck and how we didn't leave the town without getting some from the local market there!

Now, I wish I would have got some more so that the whole length could have been covered with these cute bells.
Yet another...
Some animal figurines...

I love the cascading effect of this plant. A friend moved to the US of A and I was the lucky one to own this!
A wall covered with knick-knacks

We come to the end of the balcony tour. The vertical arrangement has really helped me in organizing all the plants neatly.
Would soon come up some more interesting posts. Stay tuned!
