Makeover of the guest bedroom with Photowall

Makeovers are great. They not only bring about the much needed change to the given space but also satisfies the creative urge in you.

Our guest bedroom was always kept very basic but the chance to uplift its ambience came when we decided to do a wall makeover and you shall soon see how the whole room is transformed.

When you visit their website, you are spoilt for choices. Make up your mind first on the room or the wall that you want to  use the wallpaper on. Next you can zero in on the theme.

As a family, we love nature. Birds, trees, flowers is our calling. "Birds meeting place" is the wall mural we chose for our bedroom wall.

Next step is to measure the wall, top to bottom, left to right. Allow a little margin and order your wall paper. We chose to get the assistance kit along with the wallpaper. At every step, there is appropriate guidance, so that you don't go wrong. You can adjust the design to suit your requirements. 

After ordering, it took exactly 5 days for the shipment to arrive from Sweden.

The wall behind the cot, is the one that is going to be wallpapered. Now before you start on any wall, you have to make sure of the following

The wall should be even, without any cracks and holes. If so take care of that first. We had a lighting on the wall and also holes because of the nails that had been drilled to hang frames.

We filled these with putty and  gave it good time to dry.

The wall you choose for the wall paper should be free of leakage. Ideally don't choose a wall that is common with the restroom.

The first day we only moved the furniture away from the wall. Took care of the drilled holes. 2nd day we were ready to begin work. 

The best part of this makeover project was that my hubby and daughter helped me with it, whenever they could.

The Kit

The glue is very easy to prepare. A suggestion to all of you is to mix the glue in parts. We had decided to do the makeover in parts, taking it slowly, one day at a time and enjoying the whole process.

The wall paper arrived in a roll and according to the dimension of our wall there were 8 tiles ( strips), rolled into one.

The first task we did was to separate each tile and keep it ready.

We only stuck two tiles the first day. Took only a portion of the glue powder and mixed it well with luke warm water.

The next step is to apply the glue on the wall with the help of the brush provided in the kit. Apply the glue properly, covering the entire stretch from top to bottom and covering a little more surface than the width of the tile.

Rolled the first tile and stuck it on the wall as shown. You should use the leveller provided to hang it straight, keep using the brush to even creases, while you keep rolling the tile downwards. There is absolutely no need to hurry as the glue doesn't dry up immediately. If you feel you have stuck wrongly, and there is a bubble showing up, go one step backwards, roll the tile upwards, adjust and paste once again.

The first tile is only so much work. Now, when you work with the second tile or strip, another important thing to keep in mind is that the second one has to seamlessly match with the design on the first.

Since ours was a flower theme, we matched the branches and petals. While working on the second tile, use the seam roller to exactly match the design pattern and to have a seamless flow of design.

I spent a moment after sticking the two tiles, just admiring the work.

The entire wall has to be done in the above mentioned manner, just making sure that you don't hurry, stick each tile properly, remove air bubble on the go, use seam roller wisely. These are the only few points to keep in mind.

The last tile was a little tricky for us, because of the wardrobe in the adjacent wall. The tile had to be cut to size to a certain dimension till about a certain stretch. Also, finally I had to cut out portions from near the ceiling and the bottom for which I used the knife cutter.

And once you get a knack of it, there is no stopping you. Took me two more days to finish the entire wall.

Restroom makeover

Makeovers are real fun to execute. First, you have to come up with a solid foolproof idea, then comes the planning stage which includes buying the required materials and finally the execution of the project. Recently, i did a small addition/ change to our common restroom and all those who have seen the 'Before' and 'After' have liked these changes.

The restroom appeared dark with black/brown coloured tiles on the walls. These tiled walls looked classy when we moved in  but soon with usage and water stains that refused to go away even after multiple attempts prompted me to take up this makeover.

 Some time back, i had transformed the window pane from 'boring' to 'interesting' which  I have shared here.
So, now lets start with this one...

Before...

 I chose these vinyl wall adhesives -Moroccan styled mosaics which are waterproof and especially designed for bathrooms and kitchens. My main aim here was to give a cheerful look to the space which i think is achieved with these colourful ones.

I chose to place these adhesives in a random manner. I only, had to visualize which one to place where but you know that's the trickiest of all!

This is how it progressed. Then i felt, the window sill too looked ugly. So another one cut to size, peeled and pasted. Now the look is complete. Am at peace with myself now. I feel it has added the necessary vibrancy needed in the restroom. what do you think folks?  Let me know in the comments.

Transformation of the laundry space !

 Our homes are our pride and for a decor enthusiast like me, I would want each corner to be, just as I envisioned!
But you know,there are these small pockets in everyone's home that act as an eyesore but nothing much or great can be done about them. One such space in our home is the small corner in the dry area  which specifically caters to the  laundry requirement. This is how it looks...

I know you would want to reason it out with me saying how does it matter? How much of my time do I actually spend there? Hardly any! But still...

These are the following that had to be addressed...

1.The plain boring walls
2.Utility items like the ladder placed on the side,lunch bags that are hung on the wall giving an unpleasant sight!
3. Nailing on the walls was ruled out since the said walls had too many water lines running and I did not want to take any risk.
4.I wanted the entire transformation on a zero budget. Ehh!! Does that sound ridiculous to you? I was kind of very firm on this!

So, once the idea took seed, I started looking out for good pics, something that I can easily try my hands at and cover a portion of the plain wall surrounding the washing machine with some colours  and bring about a facelift to the space.

This is the completed look. At least, the bare, boring white walls are a little vibrant now. I added a warli poster on the facing wall. A fabric hanging that had seen better days is used to cover the washing machine when not in use, the ladder and lunch bags have been designated a different place and I have a contented cheerful smile on my face!

This comes at a time when my hubby is constantly lamenting over the boring workplace that he has to be in for major part of the day.

Many a times 'A' works form home and his desk faces a blank wall.Well, we had no other option anyway! The only window in the room doesn't have much of an appealing view to position the desk suitably in front of the window either.

So, we always thought that the wall will see better days and from a blank canvas evolve into something appreciable.Last week,after it became clear that I could not sustain more of  A 's cribbing, I decided to do a makeover. A makeover of his work area...

Now, as you might have heard about decals, they are really a quick fix to enliven any area. Also known as wall appliques, wall decals are the easiest and coolest way to transform your living spaces. These special graphic vinyl stickers can be applied to your walls and they’re easy to handle too! Simply peel and stick.

There are multitudes of options available online now a days.One such company that caught my attention was Chipakk Wall Decals.

Chipakk’s wall decals are typically thin sheets of vinyl on one side and adhesive on the other.Various themes in about 15-18 categories are available.

Ordered for a nature inspired wall decal from chipakk. I felt that a design with nature as the theme,with flora and fauna can bring a lively and chirpy feel to the room. As I finalized on this one, another particular aspect that I realized was that the decal was also multi coloured. Green, orange and brown should also help in bringing the much necessary colour into the room.

To go about the actual process of ordering and delivery of the product was fairly simple and the ordered product arrived within a week neatly packed.It also provides a sample, just in case you would want to try out before fixing the actual decal.

 The design is sandwiched between two papers, a transparent sheet and a backing paper. It is relatively simple but there is a certain trick or knack to apply the decal on the wall.You will need a partner to fix it on the wall for sure.Secondly, start from a corner of the sheet and make sure that the design adheres to the transfer sheet. This can be ensured with the help of a 'squeegee' that is provided along with the kit.While transferring on the wall too, do not do it at one go .Instead start the action from the top left corner and proceed downwards slowly making sure that the decal is getting fixed on to the wall.
A step wise instruction sheet is provided which should make your process easy.

It takes just about 15 minutes from start to finish.From the time taken to decide how and where to place the decal to finally get the work done, it's as easy as a song. Believe me!

And to get all of this done in the absence of my hubby was even more exciting! He was extremely glad to see the much needed change in his work space .So what if he cannot view the real birds and trees. This is the next best to it!

A makeover story

A unique experience

Hey guys am so excited!!
Got a makeover done at my home by ASIAN PAINTS.Many of you may be aware of the "SURPRISE YOUR SPOUSE" campaign launched by Asian Paints for their Royale play brand. Am sure you would have seen Saif Ali khan ad where he is a part of a makeover process.
Bad luck,couldn't meet him though!
when I saw this ad,I thought it was time to give a real surprise to my husband and a makeover surprise adds such a fun element to the whole concept.

BEFORE

The plain wall


well it all started with fixing "the day" for the makeover.I chose a working day so that my hubby is away for the better part of the day.Finalised the combing texture and Mango as the base coat,Glowing rust as the top coat.
I chose this shade keeping in mind the rest of the decor.The idea was that the wall is highlighted at the same time it should blend in with the other decor element which is almost beige and orange in my home.ROYALE PLAY has a variety of shades and textures to chose from,actually you are spoilt for choice here.

I chose a wall which is the most highlighted in our house so that after the makeover it gets a more enhanced look.

Asian paints were there at my place by 10 am on the chosen day.They began working first by masking certain areas so as to make sure that there is no mess in other areas.Then they had to scrape the wall to smoothen it.Thereafter applied the base coat Mango,we joked that it looks as yummy as aamras.

This was the most interesting.one guy applied the glowing rust where as the other guy used this combing tool to create the design and the required effect.
Lo and Behold! by 4p.m we were done.It was quick and mess free.

Final look

Now the wait was for my husband for whom we were taking all the pain.I had this butterfly feeling in my stomach.But all is well that ends well.He was surprised to no end that I could do something of this sort behind his back.
