The art of pottery making.(Part I)

Pottery is an age old art practiced in India.Well, who hasn't seen the potter's wheel?Almost every Indian village, you will find one! Indus valley civilization and the remnants discovered from the archaeological sites of Harappa and Mohen Jo Daro speak of its existence from time immemorial.

I am forever fascinated by those deft hands churning out such precious pieces. From earthen lamps and diyas to pots & pitchers to store water, pottery is ubiquitous. In Bangalore, there is a little town dedicated to these skillful artisans.Pottery town in Bangalore has once seen better days, though there are only a handful of them now.

One such place in Mumbai is Kumbharwada, 'kumbhar' meaning the potters...Let me take you through a photo-journey.

Rows and rows of earthen beauty! A look into the faces behind these...

These images put me into an introspective mode. These hands are blessed.Their art is so soulful.Don't you feel they deserve more than this. My humble request to all of you.Source your products directly from them.Let us try to build a better world for our artisans.

Art with paper!

Art with something as ordinary as paper is unimaginable! That’s what sanjhi art and quilling is all about. If the material is as raw as paper then the accolades goes to the artists, whose visualization can make all the difference. Isn't that so true?

Quilling art by Vaishali Rastogi

My recent post on the designerboard forum is all about paper art and also about two young super talented artists Pooja Ajmera of Teekhi churri and Vaishali Rastogi of Kagaz kala creations.
Go here to know and read more on this art.

MAA,AMMA,MOTHER,AAEE...

Presenting a talented artist Smitha. She is my sister's friend and also my blog  follower.
She is a calligraphy artist and Smitha has presented this wonderful token to my sis.
It salutes motherhood to say the least. Not only the words but also the representation of the women with the foetus in her womb is truly appreciable.
Another amazing thing about the picture is that  the word 'amma' is written in Malayalam language within the womb of the mother .

Incidently watched the first episode of SATYAMEV JAYATE WITH Aamir Khan on Starplus today.
Women and Mothers in particular are God's gift to mankind.

Love and Respect them. World will be a lonely place without them.
